This song and video kind of plays on the second coming of debke, the traditional music of Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, in Lebanese society as it returns to the mainstream Lebanese culture in sort of a modernized and tacky form, although it is also still alive and well in the more mountainous and rural parts of the region. This being said, this song had serious appeal in 2008 in Lebanon, and perhaps moreso in Syria where it resonates more with the current local musical trends and the tastes of Syrian listeners who might identify less with run of the mill Lebanese pop these days.

I gotta be honest, I had heard this song a thousand times in Syria and never listened closely to the words, so it sounded to me like a father singing to his sleeping daughter, but in these last lines where he declares he is in love with her using words that lovers use such as "mughram (مغرم)", I'm confused as to whether he is speaking to his lover as if she is a little girl, or whether he is speaking to his little girl as if he is her lover. Either way, I dunno...
